Dow Ends ABS/SAN Supply to Non-Auto Industries

Dow Chemical says it will no longer supply acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and styrene acrylonitrile to non-automotive industries in the Americas, effective February 1, 2008. Dow says the “fundamentals of the market do not support [its] continued involvement.” The company plans to convert its ABS plants at Gales Ferry, CT and Ironton, OH to polystyrene lines, and include them in Dow’s proposed joint venture with Chevron Phillips Chemical.
