IHS: Shale to shield US chlor-alkali, vinyls from huge global overcapacity

The prospects for most chlor-alkali and vinyls producers are not good: over the next 10 years, the global market for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) will be oversupplied by an annual average of 18 million m.t., according to analysts at IHS Chemical. However, producers in the United States will be able to maintain profitability, owing to low energy costs resulting from the boom in shale gas development, they say....
