Mitsubishi to Quit PTA and P-Xylene Production in Japan

Mitsubishi Chemical says it plans to cease production of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and para -xylene in Japan with the closure of two plants next year. The company will permanently close a 100,000-m.t./year p -xylene unit at Mizushima, Japan in May 2010 and a 250,000-m.t./year PTA plant at Matsuyama, Japan in December 2010. The end of the line: PTA production will cease at Mitsubishi’s Matsuyama unit by the end of next year.
