IHS WPC 2014: China's PTA producers gaining leverage over p-xylene costs

With feedstock para-xylene (p-xylene) increasingly oversupplied, China’s producers of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) are gaining leverage over feedstock costs, and p-xylene margins are consequently in decline, says Duncan Clark, sr. director/aromatics and glycols at IHS Chemical. “It’s similar to the PTA industry, where there were very good margins a few years ago, and that was the business to be in.”...
