Amyris Acquires Draths

Amyris, an Emeryville, CA-based producer of renewable chemicals, has acquired Draths (Lansing, MI), Amyris CEO John Melo told investors during a recent conference call. Draths has fermentation technology for the production of caprolactam and purified terephthalic acid. Financial terms were not disclosed. Melo says Draths’ technology is based on Escherichia coli, and needed to be translated into yeast in order to be implemented at a larger scale.
