Ineos Nova Idles Styrene Plant

Ineos Nova says it has idled its 1-billion lbs/year styrene plant at Texas City, TX due to weak economic conditions. The plant will be restarted when market conditions improve, the company says. Ineos Nova has the capacity to produce nearly 3 billion lbs/year of styrene at its Bayport and Texas City, TX plants and an additional 950 million lbs/year at its Sarnia, ON facility.   Styrene prices bottomed out in early 2009 at about 22 cts-26 cts/lb fob for spot and 30 cts/lb fob for contract, but those numbers have been steadily rising.
