IHS WPC 2014: Lack of resources limits Asia's olefin output potential

Asia will remain the center of olefins demand growth at least in the foreseeable future. The region accounts for 3.9 billion, or 55%, of the world’s potential chemical and polymer consumers. Asia, as a result, is responsible for much of the investment in new olefins capacity. But  Asia is resource poor, and so it is mainly "defensive on the supply curve," said Tony Potter, v.p., Asia/Pacific at IHS Chemical in a presentation at the IHS World Petrochemical Conference (WPC), held recently in Houston.
