Sibur Sells MTBE Unit to Roel Corp.

Sibur (Moscow) says it has agreed to sell its Kauchuk JSC (Volzhskii, Russia) unit to Roel Corp. (Moscow). The deal forms part of Sibur's exit from non-core businesses, the company says. Kauchuk mainly makes methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) at its Volzhskii based plant. Last year it produced 135,000 m.t./year of MTBE. Sibur says that it will remain the principal supplier of raw materials to Kauchuk, under the agreement. The deal is expected to be close within the next 3-4 months.
