Reports: Valero to build methanol plant at St. Charles Parish, LA

Valero (San Antonio, TX) plans to build a $600–700 million methanol plant at its 270,000-bbl/day refinery site at St. Charles Parish, LA, according to various media reports quoting a company spokesperson. The facility will seek to take advantage of low-cost natural gas sourced from shale gas formations near Eagle Ford, the reports say. The project is expected to reach completion by the end of the first quarter of 2016, and the plant will have capacity for 1.6 million m.t./year of methanol, the reports add.
