Methanex mulls tripling of Medicine Hat methanol capacity

Methanex is considering Medicine Hat, AB, as one of the sites to expand methanol capacity in North America to supply the fast-growing Asia/Pacific market. The project outlined to the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency calls for the addition of 1.0–1.3 million m.t./year methanol capacity at the site. Methanex, in April 2011, restarted a 470,000-m.t./year methanol plant at the site and, if the company does go ahead with the expansion, the project would increase methanol production at Medicine Hat by more than 200%.   The proposal states that the...
