Methanex Eyes Coal Power to Free Up Chilean Gas Supplies

Methanex says it is considering building a coal-fired power plant at Cabo Negro, Chile that would allow natural gas used for the company’s methanol plants’ electricity needs to be diverted to methanol production. The power plant would free up enough gas to produce about 150,000 m.t./year of methanol, the company says. Fuel switch: Search for additional feedstock takes a new turn.
