Methanex Cuts Chile Methanol Due to Gas Shortages

Methanex says that three of its four methanol plants at its Cabo Negro, Chile facility remain idle due to a shortage of natural gas from Argentina. The Cabo Negro facility has been operating at one-quarter of capacity since June, when curtailments in natural gas from Argentina forced Methanex to cut back production. Usually by this time, the weather has warmed enough to end the restrictions, says Bruce Aitken, president and CEO of Methanex. A cold winter has increased Argentinean consumption, however.
