Compass Minerals Say Less Severe Weather Led to Lower Deicing Sales Volumes

Compass Minerals says highway deicing sales volumes were about 2,724,000 tons in the fourth-quarter of 2011, down 17% from the year-ago quarter due to less severe snow events. The company says there were 16 snow events in 11 representative cities in its primary North American highway deicing service area, compared with 50 events in the same cities in the year-ago quarter.   “While the number of snow events in North America declined 68% from the same period in 2010 and was well below the ten-year average, our highway deicing sales volume was only 17%...
