China Accelerates and Deepens Coal-to-Chemical Activities

China is accelerating its shift to coal-derived chemicals to offset its growing dependence on oil imports. The country is on track to significantly hike its coal-to-chemical and fuel production, with coal-to-liquids (CTL) production set to total 12 million m.t./year by 2015, says Lei Xia, managing director of AsiaChem Consulting (Shanghai).
