Shell extends option on proposed cracker site, agrees to fund demolition

Shell Chemical has agreed to fund demolition at a Monaca, PA industrial site it has been evaluating for a potential world-scale ethane cracker since March 2012, according to a statement issued today by the site’s current owner, Horsehead Holding (Pittsburgh). The project aims to take advantage of the large volumes of ethane being extracted in the region from the Marcellus Shale deposits. Demolition is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2014.
