Sasol orders compressors, licenses process technology

In a bid to beat the crowd of ethane cracker projects destined for the United States, Sasol has ordered the main ethylene compressor trains of its Lake Charles, LA, $5–7-billion ethane cracker project, the company says. The compressor trains will be supplied by MHI Compressor International (Houston). The 1.5-million-m.t./year ethylene cracker is expected to begin operation in 2017. Separately, Sasol has agreed to license ExxonMobil Chemical’s tubular process technology for use in a 420,000-m.t./year low-density polyethylene plant at Lake Charles that...
