Idemitsu shutters Tokuyama refinery-petchems complex after earthquake

Idemitsu Kosan has halted operations at its Tokuyama, Japan refinery-petrochemical site as a result of seismic activity in the area, the company announced today. An earthquake of a magnitude 6.3 on the Richter scale struck the southern Japanese island of Kyushu in the early morning of today, local time. Increased flare activity is being observed at the site, but the company says this forms part of the safety mechanisms in place there.
