Higher Selling Prices Boost Braskem's Profits

Braskem reported fourth-quarter 2010 net income of R$356 million ($213.4 million), compared with a loss of R$1.4 billion in the same period of 2009. Fourth-quarter Ebitda rose 37%, to R$1.1 billion, on higher sales volumes of thermoplastic resins and the recovery of resin and basic petrochemicals prices, partially offset by the appreciation of the Brazilian real. Sales grew 10%, to R$7.2 billion, on higher prices of resins and basic petrochemicals, especially for polypropylene, benzene and propylene; higher sales volumes; and improved product mix in its resins...
