Ube to close caprolactam facility at Sakai

Ube Industries says that it will cease production of caprolactam at the company’s production complex at Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, Japan, by March 2014. The decision was made on 5 February, at a meeting of the company’s board of directors. With the global economic slowdown starting in 2012, growth in demand for caprolactam has weakened, and the market share for caprolactam has been heavily eroded by the entry of new manufacturers and production expansion by existing manufacturers mainly in China, Ube says.
