TPC gets green light for on-purpose butadiene production plans

TPC Group’s (TPC; Houston) board has approved capital spending for the next phase of engineering for a planned on-purpose butadiene unit, the company said. TPC expects engineering design optimization for the project to be complete by the end of the third-quarter of 2013, with startup in 2016. The company currently produces butadiene by extraction at a 380,000 m.t./year plant in Houston and a 260,000 m.t./year plant in Port Neches, TX. The current project is aimed at restarting an idled 270,000 m.t./year dehydrogenation unit at TPC’s site in Houston...
