Shell Exits Sabina Butadiene JV, Making BASF and Total Sole Owners

Shell Chemicals has sold its 60% stake in the Sabina Petrochemicals butadiene joint venture at Port Arthur, TX, leaving BASF and Total Petrochemicals as the sole partners with 60-40 ownership. BASF will continue to operate the Sabina plants. Sabina began operation at its 905-million lbs/year butadiene extraction unit in Port Arthur in 2004, and ownership was 60% Shell Chemicals, 24% BASF, and 16% by Total.
