Shell Chemicals will exit the jv, effective Aug. 1, leaving BASF and Total Petrochemicals as the sole partners with 60-40 ownership. BASF will continue to operate the Sabina plants. Sabina Petrochemicals began operations of its 905-million lbs/year butadiene extraction unit in 2004, and ownership was 60% Shell Chemicals, 24% BASF, and 16% by Total subsidiary Atofina.
