Chemtura Declares Force Majeure Due to Butadiene Shortages

Chemtura says it has declared force majeure on its Blendex plastics additives sourced from North America due to “critical shortages” of butadiene, a key raw material. The company says it will be taking steps to apportion available material “fairly and appropriately” among its customers.  The company says it will also increase prices for Blendex globally, by up to $3.53/kg or approximately 25%, effective September 1 or as contracts allow, due to the rapid escalation of raw material costs, particularly butadiene.
