Reports: Explosion at Shell aromatics site in Germany

An explosion occured today at about 14.00 GMT at Shell's Godorf, Germany aromatics complex, German media sources have reported. There were no casualties and the resulting fire is under control, the reports add. Shell's Godorf complex has capacity to produce 600,000 m.t./year of benzene; 280,000 m.t./year of mixed xylenes; and 140,000  m.t./year of toluene, according to IHS Chemical data. Shell was not available for comment at CW press time. The cause of the accident remains to be determined although reports say it was caused by a toluene tank catching fire...
