Third-Quarter Profits Rise at Tronox

Tronox reported third-quarter net income of $98.9 million, compared to a net loss of $25.5 million in the third-quarter of 2010. Sales were up 49% from the year-ago quarter, to $465.4 million, on higher selling prices in the company’s pigments business. Results were driven by significantly higher selling prices, increased volumes and continued favorable global demand for core titanium dioxide pigment products, the company says.   Meanwhile, Tronox says its previously announced acquisition of Exxaro Mineral Sands is on track to close in the first half...
