Cabot to Boost Fumed Silica Capacity at Barry

Cabot says it will expand fumed silica production at its Barry, Wales facility by more than 25% to help meet rising global demand for silicones. The expansion, part of a three-year investment plan to increase global fumed metal oxide capacity 35%-50%, is expected to be complete in 2012. The company did not disclose the cost of the expansion. Cabot’s Barry plant is adjacent to a Dow Corning silicone monomer facility.
