Report: Uralkali CEO detained in Belarus, investigators to seize company assets (Update)

Reuters today reported that Belarusian authorities have detained Vladislav Baumgertner, CEO of Uralkali, on suspicion of abusing his position and official powers, according to the Belarusian Investigative Committee. Baumgertner was held after meeting with Belarusian prime minister, Mikhail Myasnikovich, on Monday. Russia and Belarus have had a strained relationship since Uralkali’s decision to quit a joint trading venture with Belarus Potash Co.
