ICL's Earnings Soar on Higher Volumes

ICL reported first-quarter net income jumped 52%, to $241 million, on sales up 54%, to $1.4 billion because of “a sharp increase in quantities sold in all operating segments.” This was partially offset by reduced selling prices, primarily in the fertilizers segment, ICL says. Operating income rose 48%, to $303 million helped by the company’s ongoing “efficiency program.” The fertilizers division’s operating income soared 67%, to $232 million, on sales up 106%, to $766 million because of improved volumes.
