Fertilizer Profits Grow on Higher Prices

Higher selling prices and strong demand lifted third-quarter earnings of CF Industries Holdings (Deerfield, IL), Terra Industries, and Compass Minerals. CF Industries’s net income grew more than 100%, to $86.5 million, over the same year-ago period. Sales rose 46%, to $582.9 million. “Improved pricing produced substantial improvement in both our nitrogen and phosphate segments for the quarter,” says Stephen R. Wilson, chairman and CEO.
