Belaruskali closes two of four potash mines

Belaruskali (Soligorsk, Belarus) said on Friday that it had closed two of its four potash mines. Anatoly Makhlai, deputy chief executive of Belaruskali said the mines were closed for maintenance. Russian press reports, however, say that closures are partly the result of market conditions following Uralkali’s (Berezniki, Russia) decision to pull out of Belarussian Potash Co. (BPC), a marketing joint venture between Uralkali and Belaruskali, which has led to the arrest in Minsk on 26 August of Vladislav Baumgertner CEO of Uralkali for alleged abuse of power...
