Solvay Commissions First Trona Mine Methane Recovery System in U.S.

Solvay says it has commissioned North America’s first trona mine methane recovery facility at Green River, WY. The company’s patented methane recovery system captures methane released during the soda ash mining process that would otherwise be vented directly into the atmosphere. The process instead directs it to either be incinerated or piped to the trona processing facility to recover the thermal energy via combustion. Since its initial testing last year, the project has already removed more than 160,000 m.t. of CO2 equivalent from the atmosphere...
