Westlake Greenlights Previously Postponed Chlor-Alkali Unit

Westlake Chemical says it will proceed with its previously announced plan to construct a $250 million-$300 million membrane-process chlor-alkali plant at the company’s vinyls complex at Geismar, LA. The plant will have the capacity to produce about 250,000 electrochemical units (ECU), a combination of chlorine and caustic soda units, bringing total ECU capacity at the site to 525,000 ECUs.   The plant was announced in September 2008, but was postponed due to the economic downturn.
