Markets :: Basic Chemicals :: Inorganic Chemicals :: Chlor-alkali Sibur to Close Outdated Chlorine Plant at Dzerzhinsk2:38 AM MDT | July 17, 2012 | Natasha Alperowicz Sibur (Moscow) announced today that it will shut down a chlorine manufacturing complex at its Sibur-Nefekhim subsidiary at Dzerzhinsk, Russia. The company says that the plant is old and it would be uneconomical to replace its equipment. The phasing out process has already started and will continue until the spring of 2013. The timeline provides for the safest possible shutdown process, the company says. Just more than 1,000 people are currently employed at the chlorine production site, which belonged to the former Kaprolaktam unit. The shutdown...
