PPG Implements Caustic Soda Allocation After Midwest Floods

PPG says it is declaring force majeure on all grades of liquid caustic soda shipped from its North American chlor-alkali facilities and that it anticipates placing customers on approximately 90% allocation. The company cites a June 15 storm that damaged “key” electrical systems in one of its Lake Charles, LA production units, and “extensive” flooding in the Midwest river system.
