Asahi to Supply Membrane Technology to New Dow Plant

Asahi Kasei Chemicals, an Asahi Kasei subsidiary, says it has been selected by Dow Chemical to supply membrane-process equipment at Dow’s planned chlor-alkali plant at Freeport, TX. Asahi’s membrane-process technology uses ion-exchange membranes in the electrolysis of brine to produce chlorine and caustic soda. It is used as an alternative to technology that uses mercury and diaphragm processes, Asahi says.
