Arkema inaugurates membrane process chlorine plant

Arkema today inaugurated a new electrolysis plant at its Jarrie site, near Grenoble, France. The €100-million ($138 million) investment involved converting a mercury-cell plant to membrane technology, preempting the mandatory deadline for the conversion of all mercury plants in Europe by several years. All plants in Europe have to switch from mercury technology by December 2017. The new plant is designed to produce 70,000 m.t./year of chlorine.
