Rhodia and Cobalt Planning n-Butanol Biorefineries in Latin America (Updated)

Cobalt Technologies (Mountain View, CA), a company commercializing biobased n-butanol as a renewable chemical and fuel, says it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Rhodia to develop n-butanol refineries based on bagasse throughout Latin America. Rhodia says biobased n-butanol will enable it to extend its Augeo-brand range of renewable-based solvents, which the company has been producing in Brazil from the biodiesel byproduct glycerin since 2009.
