Galp Energia opens Portugal's first food waste biorefinery

Galp Energia (Lisbon) has inaugurated Enerfuel, Portugal's first biorefinery operating on food waste and used cooking oil. The plant is located at the Sines Industrial and Logistics Zone (Sines, Portugal). It has a capacity of 27,000 m.t./year of biodiesel and is also able to produce glycerine. The total investment amounts to €8.5 million ($11.1 million). All the raw materials will be sourced domestically, and Galp expects to start commercial sales in Europe next year.
