Markets :: Alternative Fuels :: Biorefineries DSM Hones Biotech Strategy, Targets Bio-succinic Acid Production from 201211:12 PM MST | March 1, 2009 | Alex Scott DSM says it is closing in on a decision to produce commercial volumes of a series of chemicals derived from bio raw materials, including succinic acid. DSM, jointly with Roquette (Lestrem, France), a food ingredients firm, is in the process of building a bio-succinic acid pilot plant at Lestrem to test DSM’s processing technology. Succinic acid currently is made from crude oil and natural gas. DSM first disclosed in early 2008 that it was working with Roquette on the bio-succinic acid project. “The pilot plant will give us a few hundred tonnes...
