Biofuels firm Leaf Technologies acquires biotechnology start-up

Lesaffre Fermentation Technologies (Leaf Technologies; Marcq-en-Baroeul, France), a subsidiary of Lesaffre Group (Marcq-en-Baroeul) has acquired Butalco (Fürigen, Switzerland), a company that develops new production processes for second-generation biofuels and biobased chemicals, for an undisclosed amount, Leaf says. Butalco research facilities are at Frankfurt. Butalco has been developing yeast strains for second-generation biofuels and biochemicals based on lignocellulose.
