AkzoNobel and Solazyme ink algae-based oils development deal

Solazyme (San Francisco) and AkzoNobel announced today that they have entered into an agreement to develop ingredients for AkzoNobel's surfactants and coatings products using Solazyme's algae-based triglycerides. The partnership includes a commercial off-take agreement for multi-thousand ton quantities of sustainable algal oil. The triglycerides will originate from a manufacturing facility currently under construction in Brazil by Solazyme and joint venture partner Bunge.
