Mascoma Granted $80-Million DOE Grant for Michigan Cellulosic Ethanol Plant

Mascoma says it was awarded an $80-million US Department of Energy (DOE) grant to build its 20-million gals/year cellulosic ethanol plant at Kinross, MI. The award is in addition to the $20 million in DOE funding Mascoma says it received for R&D related to the project. The total cost of the facility is expected to be $232 million, and the balance will be funded by Valero Energy, Mascoma’s joint venture partner in the facility, and the state of Michigan. Construction is expected to begin in the first half of 2012 and be completed by the end of 2013...
