Gevo Wins Denial of Preliminary Injunction in Isobutanol Battle; Butamax Plans Appeal

A Delaware court has denied Butamax Advanced Biofuels' (Wilmington, DE) motion for a preliminary injunction restricting Gevo's (Englewood, CO) commercial activity, the latest development in an 18-month patent battle between the two biobased isobutanol firms. Isobutanol is a four-carbon molecule that can be used directly as a specialty chemical, as a gasoline blendstock, and as a raw material for the production of plastics, fibers, rubber, and other polymers.
