Evonik Closes Orthoesters Plant in Germany

Evonik Industries says it will discontinue production of orthoesters at its Niederkassel, Germany plant in the third quarter of this year, due to overcapacity, high raw material prices and competition from China. Production of these building blocks, used mainly by the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, is no longer economically viable in Europe, Evonik says.
