Styron Europe, a Styron subsidiary; and the Ravago Group (Arendonk, Belgium) have signed a definitive agreement, under which Styron’s expandable polystyrene (EPS) business will be sold to RP Compounds, a subsidiary of Ravago, for an undisclosed sum. The sale includes an EPS manufacturing facility at Schkopau, Germany, as well as related intellectual property and the Sconapor brand. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and completion of customary conditions.

Ravago specializes in the distribution, resale, and compounding of commodity and engineering plastics. The company recently acquired two other EPS producers: Monotez, which operates a 70,000-m.t./year plant near Athens, and Eastchem, with a 150,000-m.t./year EPS plant at Izmir, Turkey.

“The expertise of the [Schkopau] team and the high level of the factory setup will further strengthen our Ravago manufacturing platform and technologies,” says Theo Roussis, CEO of the Ravago Group.
