DuPont Acquires Stake in Chinese Fluorochemical Firm

2:56 PM MDT | October 17, 2013 | Rebecca Coons

DuPont says it plans to acquire a minority share in fluorochemical firm Changshu 3F Zhonghao New Chemical Materials (Zonghao; Changshu, China) from Shanghai 3F New Materials. DuPont’s stake and other terms of the deal were not disclosed. Shanghai 3F New Materials will remain the majority shareholder.

Zhonghao produces fluorine-containing refrigerants, cleaning agents, fire-extinguishing agents, aerosol propellants, foaming agents, pesticides intermediates and fluorocarbon coatings.

DuPont says Zhonghao’s fluorochemical manufacturing capabilities enable it to better serve rapidly growing regional markets for fluorochemicals across all applications. “This applies for existing and future chemistries for refrigerants or for our specialty fluorochemicals markets,” says Gary Spitzer, president/DuPont Chemicals & Fluoroproducts.

The companies have not yet finalized the deal pending completion of a definitive agreement. It is subject to certain Chinese government approvals.
