World News and Views :: Top of the News Westlake's Profit Doubles on Higher Sales and Improved Margins7:50 AM MDT | November 3, 2010 | Lindsey Bewley Westlake Chemical announced its third-quarter net income doubled, to $62.7 million, on sales up 23%, to $779.7 million. Sales increased $147.1 million compared to the third quarter of 2009 driven primarily by higher sales prices and higher sales volume for most of the company's major products, except caustic soda and pipe-grade polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Income from operations was $107.3 million, as compared to $49.0 million for the third quarter of 2009, on improved olefins segment integrated product margins due primarily to a 17.5% increase in product...
