World News and Views :: Top of the News Westlake Founder Dies at 8611:32 AM MDT | March 11, 2008 | Rebecca Coons Ting Tsung “T.T.” Chao, founder and former chairman of both Westlake Chemical (Houston) and Titan Chemical (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), died on March 7 at the age of 86. During his 60-year career, Chao became a global leader in petrochemicals and plastics and pioneered the industry in Tawain and Southeast Asia. Chao is credited with building Tawain’s first polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plant in 1954. Ten years later, he founded China General Plastics Group (Taiwan), which included China General Plastics Corp., Taita Chemical Co., and Asia Polymers Corp...
