Grace will pay $250 million to reimburse the federal government for past and future cleanup of asbestos contamination at Grace’s former Libby, MT vermiculite mine, according to a settlement finalized yesterday with EPA and the Department of Justice. The fee is highest in the history of the Superfund program, EPA says. The settlement does not resolve a criminal case brought by EPA against seven Grace executives which alleges they knowingly suppressed internal studies on potential adverse health effects related to asbestos exposure to at the Libby site...
