Ultra-Thin Catalysts Made to Order

Researchers at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST; Daejeon. Korea) led by chemistry professor Ryong Ryoo have developed a process for making two nanometer-thick crystalline sheets of zeolite catalysts. The sheets have a higher catalytic activity and better resistance to poisoning by reaction products than their conventional counterparts, the Ryoo says. “The large number of acid sites on the external surface of these zeolites renders them highly active for the catalytic conversion of large organic molecules,” the...
